Cobrey Farms has a history
of investing heavily in the research and development of new crops, varieties and
growing techniques. One particular area of expertise is season extension for
traditional UK produce, which is being achieved in an increasingly environmental
sustainable manner whilst improving the taste, and consistency of the produce. An example is a 4-hectare
under soil heating trial area for asparagus, rhubarb and sea kale. This is a
Soil Association approved organic field with heat supplied from a boiler burning
wood chip from a chestnut coppice on the farm. Carbon neutral asparagus
production for Valentine’s Day is planned for 2009! We are constantly
developing new products to meet consumer demand. If you are searching for a
grower or packer who is flexible to your requirements and who can innovate to
find a solution to a problem then please feel free to contact us
by clicking here. Our business is a leader in the application of science and innovation on a commercial scale to improve produce quality and flavour, increase sustainability, reduce produce costs, and increase season length. New crops under development include: Purple asparagus, Rhubarb, Sea Kale, Edamame beans, Sorrel, Blueberries…
Organics
Cobrey Farms are in the
process of converting many hectares of our land to organic production. This
alongside an existing organic partnership makes us one of the only commercial
organic asparagus, rhubarb and sea kale growers in the UK. We are always on the
lookout for new local and national outlets for our WyeValley Organic produce. If
you are interested please contact us

Chinn-Valley Vineyard and Winery
In 2005 we said goodbye to
the last of our cattle and 80 years of stock farming. This left us with some
fields of permanent pasture on our steep valley sides. These fields are
unsuitable for arable cropping so we diversified, planting some up into
traditional broadleaf woodland, and in one particular location a vineyard! There is a long history of
growing grapes in the Coughton Valley stretching back to the Romans who terraced
the very banks where the ‘new’ vineyard now lies. With its south facing
slopes and thin slightly acidic soil the vineyard is perfect for growing the
Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes grown in the Champagne region of
France. We took our first
commercial harvest of 23 tonnes in October 2006, which is currently bottled but
resting on its lees following secondary fermentation. Initial tastings are
encouraging but we will not know the fruits of our labour until 2009 on the
opening of the first bottle of ‘Chinn-Chin’ English sparkling wine. In due course we will be
looking for suitable local and national outlets and restaurants who would be
interested in taking our wines. In the mean time if you would like to learn more
then please feel free to contact us
by clicking here.
